Here is a rare item. This is a printer's block for the single-panel cartoon Just Humans, by Gene Carr. Carr created 'Just Humans' in 1925, a gag cartoon feature that featured slice-of-life social commentary. It presumably ran until 1929.

He was one of the most active early New York City artists in the young field of comic strips. Carr is considered a pioneer of the use of sequential panels. He did cartoons for William Randolph Heart's papers, the New York Herald, New York World and the New York Evening Journal. His strip "Lady Bountiful," which debuted in 1902 in Heart's papers, is considered the first cartoon to use a female main character.

This all metal printer's block of the Just Humans cartoon shows two women walking by another. The caption states, "She has given up playing the piano since she went into mourning, hasn't she?" "Yes, she only plays the black keys now."

The block is in great condition. Size is 4-1/8" by 5-7/16" by 1/8". The women show the fashion style of the 1920's.

This is a great historical piece rarely found for those who collect the Roaring 20's, fashion, the art deco era, or early cartoons.

As always, buy more than one item from my shop and I'll combine the shipping. I don't make a profit on shipping like some sellers do. However, etsy's calculator doesn't do well with combined orders, so you may get a partial refund of your shipping cost after you have paid for the order.

Keep in mind that many of my items are one-of-a-kind, and I have local customers looking at them. If you buy something that has just sold locally and wasn't yet removed, the order will be cancelled and your full payment returned to you, unless I have a similar item in stock. You can always contact me before your purchase to confirm the item is still available.
