Necklace/Choker, Deerskin Leather, Heartwood & Ceramic Bead

Here is a 16" necklace or choker (unused) made from heartwood rounds from lodgepole pines. I attached them to a piece of deerskin lace by threading it through some deerskin patches that were then glued to the back of the rounds. Separating the rounds are some very earthy ceramic beads. Connects with a simple hook and eye closure. Creates a great simple elegance, and is the type of thing that could be worn by a man or woman who enjoys an earthy look in their jewelry. A fantastic one-of-a-kind piece, you'll likely never see again.

Back in the 70's I was in college and exploring my Indian (Native American for you pc nuts) heritage (I've since learned my roots are Tuscaroran...further east than I thought given my Midwest location). During that time I was making a lot of jewelry with that type of cultural look, though since I was living in the mountains of the West at the time, much of it had more of a New Mexico/Arizona look.

While chopping wood for one of the resorts in the spiritually powerful area of the Tetons/Yellowstone one day, several perfectly round heartwood centers fell out of the piece of lodgepole pine I was splitting. I knew they would look great in something. I was right.

I've kept this in my inventory all these years, refusing to sell it. But I've been letting go of a lot of things lately, and now is the time for this to go to someone who will appreciate the spiritual significance of this piece. Bring out the Indian or elvish magic in you!
