Nailsea Butterfly Compote, Amber Glass with White, Victorian

Here is a rarely found piece of vintage or antique glass. This is Nailsea Glass. It is an amber with white compote in a very large size. Usually these are found with the Jenny Lind cameo on the stem, but this one has the harder to find butterfly medallion. Size is about 10" high and 7.5" wide. Excellent condition throughout. Wonderful detail.
The Nailsea Glassworks near Bristol, England closed its doors in 1873, so many people seem to assume that this glass is older than that. However, most nailsea glass that is collected today was actually made after the company's closing, in the 1880's and 1890's by other English glassmakers, and it was continued to be made long after that in both the United States and Italy. So dating is difficult. All of it has that wonderful, detailed look of good, high-end Victorian glass.
