Industrial Plate Steel House/Sign Number #0

Unusual vintage industrial item. This is a #0 made out of plate steel. It appears to be a 3/16" thick number cut out of steel and mounted on a 3/16" backing plate. Total size is 8" by 5.5" by 0.375", with the actual numbers being 6" high. Black number on a white background, appears to be roughly hand painted, not commercially produced, as paint overruns can be found. Perhaps used as address signs, or factory station/bin numbers, etc. Definitely made to last forever!
The back of each number shows a vertical bar of corrosion and/or paint, indicating it must have been mounted at one time on a bar or post of some kind. The mounting holes at the top and bottom are just shy of 1/2" and would probably accept a 7/16" bolt or lag screw. These are heavy pieces, weighing over 2.5 pounds.
